The establishment of NPI Chengdu Office is an expansion of the successful practice of NPI model in Shanghai. In addition, according to China’s national development strategies, Chengdu is set as a pilot reform site that acting as a junction between rural projects and urban ones. NPI Chengdu Office thus will focus on searching and nourish NGO talents, summarizing and utilizing its experiences of supporting start-up grassroots NGOs.
NPI Chengdu Office was launched shortly after the 512 Wenchuan Earthquake, and as quickly as possible, the office undertook a post-quake recovery project funded by Narada Foundation. Meanwhile, the office invited Taiwan 921 Post-Disaster Reconstruction Foundation. The Executive Chairman Zhicheng Xie and other experts shared their experiences with domestic NGOs.
During the post-quake recovery period, NPI Chengdu office pays close attention to the changing demands of NGOs working in the forefront; and provides continuous support and services to them. In the coming three years, it will concentrate on incubating local NGOs dedicated to reconstruction work in Sichuan.
At present, NPI Chengdu Office categorizes its business into the following five parts: 1. the Incubator; 2. NGO capacity building program; 3. post-quake recovery; 4. community center services; 5. united fundraising platform.
